We have a legal duty to protect any personal information we collect and use leading technologies and encryption software to safeguard your data. The rest of this statement is dedicated to making it clear when we collect personal information and will explain what we intend to do with it.

Peoples Collection Wales (PCW) is a partnership between The National Library of Wales, National Museum Wales and the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales.

PCW will not use your data for any purpose other than for the management and maintenance of the website/archives and to communicate with you. Whilst we do use third parties to help us deliver the service, they cannot use your data for any other purpose.

Your rights

Your privacy is important to us and as an individual you have a number of rights. You can:

  • access and obtain a copy of your data on request;
  • ask us to change incorrect or incomplete data;
  • ask us to delete or stop processing your data where we are relying on either your consent or our own legitimate interests as the legal ground for processing.

We take any complaints we receive about this very seriously. We encourage people to bring it to our attention if they think that our collection or use of information is unfair, misleading or inappropriate. We would also welcome any suggestions for improving our procedures.

Cookies: opting out

Cookies: third-party measuring and performance
We use a third-party service, Google Analytics, to collect standard internet log information and details of visitor behaviour patterns to help us to improve our website. We do this to find out things such as the number of visitors to the various parts of the site. This information is only processed in an anonymous way which does not identify anyone individually. Registered Users
To register an account on the website, we require a valid email-address. Your address is saved in your profile and is not shared with any third-party or displayed to other users. We only use this information to communicate regarding your content or change notices.
E-newsletters
If you sign up for our quarterly newsletter, we use a third part provider, Mail Chimp, to deliver and gather statistics around email opening and clicks. You can opt out at any time by selecting unsubscribe at the bottom of the newsletter or when you are logged in to the website.
Contacting us
When we email you, we try to encrypt the message. This will depend on whether your email provider supports it; many providers do. If you want to check your provider search for encryption in their documentation.
Monitoring and protection
We use third-party systems and services to protect our systems and our staff. These systems and services monitor the systems, emails and files sent to us for threats such as viruses, malicious software or other inappropriate content. Please be aware that you have a responsibility to ensure that any email you send is within the bounds of the law
