Description

Robert Crowest Griffiths was the only son of Mr & Mrs Tom Griffiths, Oakland House, Mumbles. He served as Gunner 725681, 108 Battery, 23 Brigade
Royal Field Artillery, and was killed in action in France, aged 21, on 3 September 1918. He was buried at Assevilliers New British Cemetery, The Somme, and is remembered with Honour on the Great War Rood Screen Memorial, All Saints Church, Mumbles.
He was formerly with 1st Welsh Howitzer Brigade, 53rd Welsh Division, Swansea Castle Artillery.
Reporting his death, the South Wales Daily Post stated that 'Gunner Robert Griffiths, was home on leave only three weeks ago, and during his short stay celebrated his 21st birthday.'
