Description

John Owen (born in Bynea in 1896) served with the Royal Engineers in the First World War, and was involved in the Egypt/Palestine campaign. This is a photograph he took in Jerusalem, showing the city's north wall, looking east. In later life, John Owen would always say proudly that he spent his 21st birthday in the garden of Gethsemane, Jerusalem (26 December 1917 - two weeks after the city was taken by the Allied forces).
