10 years of People's Collection Wales

People’s Collection Wales has reached its 10th year!

This year marks the 10th year since People’s Collection Wales was first established. Since 2008 the programme has come on in leaps and bounds, from the launch of the website back in 2010 to a site that now has over 100,000 fascinating photographs, documents, audio and video recordings helping to create a complete picture of Wales’s history and heritage.

We would like to thank you all for joining and helping us along this journey and hope that you continue to provide us with your support over the coming years.

Over 200 people trained in digitisation

People’s Collection Wales have travelled across Wales, and even to Rochester, to provide training to over 200 people from April 2017 – March 2018. Those who attended the training sessions learned about copyright, metadata and how to organise, scan and digitise photographs and documents to museum, archive and library standards.

Over 40 of those who received the training went on to do the level 2, 3 credit Agored Cymru accreditation.

Congratulations to all those who successfully completed the training!

Culture is Digital policy paper

People’s Collection Wales was recently mentioned in the UK Governments Culture is Digital policy paper noting that  “The Welsh Government is committed to celebrating the unique culture and heritage of Wales (Prosperity for All) and to promoting digital access, developing the potential for digital media to promote culture through projects such as Casgliad y Werin (People’s Collection Wales).” (Section 2.3). The paper also mentioned People’s Collection Wales under section 6.2 Digital Infrastructure for Culture as a case study. You can read the full policy paper here.

This year we’ve been to Vancouver!

Earlier on this month members of our team flew to Vancouver, Canada to present at the Museums and the Web conference 2018. You can read the paper that was submitted by our team here
