Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, from a camp near Vicksburg, to his parents in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 6 March 1863 [page 1 of 2]

Description

John writes that the rest of the batallion have gone up the river to look for corn and cattle but that for the first time, he has not had to go. He was not feeling very well when they set out and so remained behind. Only two Welshmen went, Thomas Hughes and Rees Cook.

John is very surprised that his parents have heard stories of recklesness among the soldiers as this is not at all true. John is very keen to hear from who they have received such a terrible story.
