Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, from Carlton, Louisiana, to his family in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 19 September 1863 [page 1 of 4]

Description

John thanks his parents for writing so faithfully and promises to write back every week if he can. He's amazed at the crop of wheat they collected at home and he hopes he'll be back home to help next summer. He says that he thinks things will be over soon. They're awaiting news that Charleston has fallen. He hopes T. E. Hughes has arrived home and is glad that Jonah Jones is getting better. He sends his sympathy to Rees Cook's family.

He says that he's gained weight again and he quite likes being in this place.
