Description

The archives of the State Government of Victoria, Australia, hold lists of passengers arriving and departing from the state's ports, including Melbourne.

Marital status, age and gender were usually recorded, as well as nationality and occupation.

These records contain information about passengers embarking on the ROYAL CHARTER's return voyages to Liverpool from 1856 until its last departure from Melbourne in August 1859.

There may have been last minute additions to the passenger list or some who decided not to sail. This is why the full number of passengers lost when the ROYAL CHARTER was wrecked at Moelfre remains difficult to firmly establish.

How many names on this list correspond with names listed in contemporary newspaper accounts of wrecking incident?
