Description
Located on a spur of a hillside, some 2 miles from Bryncrug and cut off from the hillside by the excavation of a defensive ditch, the castleof the motte and bailey type was built by Cadwaladr ap Gruffudd in 1147, (brother of Owain Gwynnedd).

Description
The View southwards looking across the Dysynni river. Prior to the land being reclaimed from the sea and drained, this whole area would probably look completely different 800 years ago when the castle was in its prime and this was probably a salt marsh adding to the defensability of the castle.

There is little known about this motte and bailey type castle, but looking at other castles in the area, it is suspected that it was built by Llewelyn ap Iorweth. It is sometimes associated with the nearby Castell Cynfael.

Dovey castle was a motte and bailey type castle sited on a small island called Ynys Hir in the Dovey Estuary. Built by the Lord Rhys and it is here that Llewelyn ap Iorweth held court to distribute lands to other Welsh princes.

Description
There is nothing left of this motte and bailey type castle on the banks of the Dyssyni river. There is a good view of the mound, or motte, from the road bridge between Bryncrug and Llanegryn.
