About

Born and raised in South Wales, Alf Gordon's life story is fascinating and diverse. The recollections he wrote later in life discuss working in the mines at a young age, surviving the 1913 Senghennydd mining disaster, his involvement in WW1, the Battle of the Somme and much more.

His recollections, 'Sixty-five Years Along the Road of No Return' were shared with the People's Collection Wales by his grandson, David Barnes, who also published an account of Alf's life called 'Black Mountains'. The original diaries were digitised for the PCW website by volunteers at the National Library of Wales.
