In 1973, I also joined the Royal Observer Corps and attended the monitoring station/bunker that overlooked the Llanbedr airfield. The ROC bunker closed down in 1991. I joined the Royal Air Force in September 1974 and following Recruit Training at RAF Swinderby, proceeded to RAF Halton, near Aylesbury, Bucks to attend a three-year apprenticeship in aircraft airframes/propulsion. No. 230 Sqn Puma and Chinook helicopters. Retirement from the RAF in 2003 was followed by employment at: Prestige Training, Milford Haven (Key Skills & NVQ's), Pennant International, Cheltenham (Hawk CBT lessons for the BAE Indian Air Force project, Barry College (teaching BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering students), University of South Wales (ditto as for Barry College).
