Born and lived in The Wirral and at age 11, moved to the Cambrian Coast in 1968. In 1969, I joined 2445 Sqn ATC based adjacent to the (then) RAE Llanbedr airfield. In 1973, I also joined the Royal Observer Corps and attended the monitoring station/bunker that overlooked the Llanbedr airfield. The ROC bunker closed down in 1991. I joined the Royal Air Force in September 1974 and following Recruit Training at RAF Swinderby, proceeded to RAF Halton, near Aylesbury, Bucks to attend a three-year apprenticeship in aircraft airframes/propulsion. No. 124 Apprentice Entry graduation from Halton was followed by postings to: RAF Brawdy (Hunters & Hawks), RAF Valley (Hawks), RAF Coningsby (Tornado F2 & F3), BAE Saudi Arabia (Tornado F3), RAF Brawdy (Station Engineering Operations Room & Hawk Airframe Trade Manager), RAF St Athan (VC10/Hawk/Aircraft Battle Damage Repair Training Flight), Falklands - RAF Mount Pleasant (x2 detachments as SNCO iC Engineering Records). No. 230 Sqn Puma and Chinook helicopters. Retirement from the RAF in 2003 was followed by employment at: Prestige Training, Milford Haven (Key Skills & NVQ's), Pennant International, Cheltenham (Hawk CBT lessons for the BAE Indian Air Force project, Barry College (teaching BSc Aircraft Maintenance Engineering students), University of South Wales (ditto as for Barry College). Retired for a second and last time in June 2023.
