About

The Windrush Intergenerational Project was developed by the African Community Centre and supported by young people who accessed the Centre and our heritage partner - Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. The project was funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and delivered over 18 months from March 2017 to August 2018.

The project engaged young people (11-17 yrs) from local schools and young volunteers in Swansea to research, record and document the journeys, settlement/experiences, traditions, and contributions of the Windrush generation from the West Indies who settled in Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot in the 50’s, 60’s and later.

With the support of the Project Manager and lead artist, the young people designed the interview questions, filmed the interviewees, edited the videos, transcribed the videos and designed the booklet that was produced at the end of the project. Some of the young people also documented the evidences of their work on the project which was put towards achieving their Bronze Arts Award.
