Description

Scientific Name:Xerocomus chrysenteron
Fungi facts:Formerly known as Boletus chrysenteron this fungus has tubes beneath the cap instead of gills. The spores of the fungus are shed from within these tubes. Cracks in the cap surface reveal the red tissue beneath and when bruised or cut open the flesh turns blue. It is found in woodlands , especially beech where the fungus attaches itself to the roots of the tree where it supplies essential trace elements and water to the tree whilst in return obtains sugars from the host.
