Description
During WW1, the number of overseas merchant seafarers grew as the British men were called up to fight and many African, West Indian, Arabian and Asian seamen were hired to fill the jobs.
This map shows the regional distribution of places of birth for sailors based in Butetown who lost their lives to U-Boat attack on their merchant vessel.
