Son of John and Jane Hughes of Talafon Llanystumdwy, Criccieth.

Remembered with honour Thiepval Memorial.

Joined 17th Battalion RWF 4/12/15 at Conwy
17th Battalion entered the field 15/5/1916. The battalion fought at the Battle of Mametz Wood 7-12 July and this is where he was killed. His brother, Richard Evan Hughes, joined the RWF the same week and was transferred to the Machine Gun Corps 7th Division which also took part in the Battle of Mametz Wood. He was wounded but survived the war and resumed his post as schoolteacher, later taking holy orders to become curate at Llawrybetws, Merionethshire.
