THE OPENING OF THE CLUBHOUSE EXTENSION, 14th AUGUST 2004 - DINBYCH V SWANSEA RFC
The Chapter entitled "Memorable Games" in the book "40 Years of Rugby" describes the occasion:
"As part of the celebrations to mark the opening of Clwb Rygbi Dinbych’s new extension and developments, Caeau Les Phillips would host a pre-season game against Welsh rugby giants of pre-regional rugby, Swansea. The day began with the opening of the improved facilities by the Mayor of Denbigh, Raymond Bartley, North Wales Representative to the WRU, Peredur Jenkins and Club President and stalwart, Berwyn Evans.
In what was a thoroughly one sided affair, the All Whites, coached by Tony Clement, the ex-Wales and Lions full back, gave an outstanding display of attacking and clinical rugby to kick start their pre-season programme with a 119-7 victory.
It may seem strange to include such an all-encompassing hammering in this section dedicated to significant matches, but the experience of playing against a professional outfit that was awash with Welsh U21 international players made the re-opening of the Club a more than memorable occasion. Swansea also included future Wales and British Lions 2nd row, Ian Evans. Skipper Siôn Edwards would score Dinbych’s only try of the game following an offload from lock Graham Wilson, whilst outside half Llion Edwards struck an impressive conversion from out wide.
