Cwmni Theatr Cymru Productions

A selection of some of Cwmni Theatr Cymru's productions in the 1960s and 1970s as seen through the eyes of the photographer Geoff Charles. Included are images of a number of Wales' most famous Welsh language actors such as Sharon Morgan, Dewi Pws Morris, Elen Roger Jones, Stuart Jones, Grey Evans, Marged Esli, Iola Gregory and Dyfan Roberts.

Wilbert Lloyd Roberts had been directing the Welsh language productions on behalf of the Welsh Theatre Company from 1968, but in 1973 he left his post as Head of Drama at the BBC and established Cwmni Theatr Cymru. In the early years, the company played to audiences in small local venues across Wales, and used the old Tabernacl chapel in Bangor to practice. In 1975 the company moved to it's permanent home at Theatr Gwynedd, Bangor and was acive until the beginning of the 1980s.
