Entertainment and Leisure in Rhyl through the decades
This collection of 20th century post cards shows the many leisure activities and entertainment that have been popular at this seaside resort over the years. Marine Lake, a 12 hector man-made resevoir was officialaly opened in 1895 for boating and swimming, and was taken over by the Rhyl Amusement Company in 1910 which developed fairground rides along part of the shore. The Minature Railway, opened in 1911, still runs around the lake and is the only original attraction to remain open. Rhyl has always been renouned for its water attractions, from indoor and outdoor swiming baths and water chutes at Marine lake to the infamous Sun Centre which opened its doors in 1980.
