Photographs of individuals, family groups, and groups, from Cardiff dockland community, Butetown.

The photographs were taken between 1900-1920, many by Fred Petersen of Bute Street. Fred Petersen was Danish (from Copenhagen) and had settled in Cardiff some time at the end of the 19th century. He seems to have got married in Cardiff in 1895. He is listed in trade directories as a ‘tattoo artist and photographer’ on Bute Street. He died in 1925.
