Llainfadyn Cottage
Llainfadyn was built in Rhostryfan in 1762. We know that in 1861 the inhabitants were Ann and Hugh Williams, six children, a maid and a lodger. Where on earth did they all sleep?
Like most other local men of the time, Hugh Williams worked in one of the area's quarries. These exported slate all over the world. Yet farming was still an important part of the family economy. Each smallholding had a few acres of land and byres for the animals. It was usually the women who looked after the smallholding, the cows, the hens and the pigs.
The cottage was moved to the Museum in 1962.
