The Woollen Mills of Wales
The National Wool Museum is on the banks of the Bargod river which at one point supplied around ten woollen mills. With two other rivers running through the village of Dre-fach Felindre approximately twenty-four woollen mills were operational in the village at one time
The National Wool Museum was set up in 1976 in one of these mills, the Cambrian Mills, in Dre-fach Felindre. Its purpose is to interpret an industry that was one of the most important of all Welsh industries from the Middle Ages to the 1900s. The National Wool Museum tells the story of this industry and leads the visitor through the process from fleece to fabric. Only thirteen mills are still operational in Wales though not one undertakes the entire production process from fleece to fabric.
