Cennard Davies
The Coronation, Miners' Strike, 1997 Referendum and Rugby in the 1970s are the topics in this interview. As he remembers the coronation the interviewee also talks about the street party - an excuse to celebrate and share treats at an austere time. As he speaks of the Miners' Strike in 84/85 he discusses Margaret Thatcher's use of the media, the difference between the treatment of the situation by England and Wales' media, and the image which stays with him - the miners going back to work at Maerdy colliery. He remembers the night the results of the Devolution Referendum were announced in 97, with dismay turning to jubilation, and the effect of this vote on the elections that followed. As he discusses Rugby he says that everyone wants to play like the Welsh in the 70s and he talks about the huge effect of winning or losing on the workplace on the Monday after a game.
