Myfanwy Povey

The interviewee's family was the first in the valley to get a television set, and then the social pattern of the area changed, programmes on art and travel made the greatest impression over the years. She says that she remembers nothing about Tryweryn as she was living away at the time, and it was difficult to identify with Aberfan as she did not understand the kind of place the valleys were and what exactly had happened. She remembers watching the Coronation and the splendour especially and Dimbleby's voice. She talks about the different names people have for television, like 'box' and 'telly'.She says that the Miners' Strike did not affect her personally but she remembers seeing Arthur Scargill on television, and realising that he had made a big impact in the south.
