Poppies are Global

This collection represents the 'Poppies in nature' section of the 'Poppies for Remembrance' exhibition at National Museum Cardiff (21 July 2018 - 3 March 2019).

Papaveraceae, the poppy family, is distributed across the world. Papaver has species mostly in Europe and Asia with some species in the Arctic and Japan. Many members of the poppy family only grow in North, Central and South America or parts of Asia – though some species have escaped from gardens and are found elsewhere.
Meconopsis species are all found in Asia, except for Meconopsis cambrica, the Welsh Poppy.
