View of the Lancashire boilers, Cefn Coed Colliery, Crynant [image 1 of 4]

Description

This suite of 6 boilers is the largest remaining in Wales. They were installed in 1927-8 and were powered by coal - unfortunately the coal produced at Cefn Coed was unsuitable for them. The boilers at the far end of the picture (yellow piping) are powered by methane, which the colliery produced in abundance. The building within which the boilers sit was constructed in the late 1940s.
