Newport Carnival was a large affair, starting off at the Docks with hundreds of floats proceeding up into town. Community House always were involved - with members of the youth clubs and world- renowned art school (Newport College of Art) making costumes and floats. Nicky Brittan has good memories of the carnival - it inspired putting Maindee Festival on in the 1990s. Maindee Festival is still a major event in the Newport calendar, recently celebrating its 20th Anniversary.
