Welsh costume: pair of black woollen sleeves, 19th century

Description

A pair of detachable woollen sleeves in a plain black fabric. Sleeves such as these would have been worn with the traditional 'betgwn' or bedgown (an article of clothing which comprised a fitted short-sleeved bodice with attached skirt) and were particularly useful since they could be easily removed whilst undertaking house or outdoor work.
