Three birds in a case: taxidermy by J. Hutchings, Aberystwyth
Description
Cormorant, common tern and kingfisher
Taxidermist: J. Hutchings of Aberystwyth
Case: glass sides; rounded corners and feet
Dimensions: 98 x 48 cms
It is not as odd as it may seem to have three such different looking birds in the same case. Each survives by catching and eating fish. The kingfisher and common tern plunge into the water, taking their small prey by surprise, whereas the cormorant chases its victim around underwater until caught.
