Dam building in the Elan Valley, c. 1895

Description

A view from upstream of the site of the first dam in the Elan Valley at Caban coch in the early stages of construction. One of the buildings by the roadside in the foreground was a shop for the small local community of Nantgwyllt. A new church, chapel, school and other facilities were provided by Birmingham City Council to replace those lost by the flooding of the valleys.
