Vale of Nantgwyllt, Elan Valley, before flooding, 1890s

Description

The broad valley of the Elan River which included the small and scattered community of Nantgwyllt [here spelt Nantgwillt]. This view is from upstream towards the site of the lowest dam at Caban coch, and temporary site huts and other wooden buildings can be seen on the left. The white building nearby was the local school. Today, the entire valley floor lies beneath Caban coch reservoir.
