Elan Valley before the waterworks scheme, 1890s
Description
A view upstream in the Elan valley from the site of the second of the dams to be constructed, at Careg-ddu. One of the farms to be lost because of the late Victorian waterworks scheme can be seen, and part of the extensive network of the Elan Valley railway is in the foreground. The temporary railway system carried enormous quantities of building materials on a changing series of tracks as the work advanced higher up the valley.
