Bridge collapse at Llanbadarn Fawr, 1923
Description
The aftermath of a dramatic bridge collapse at Llanbadarn Fawr in Radnorshire in 1923. The steamroller and trailer were clearly too heavy for the suspension bridge to support, and were deposited in the River Ithon when the cables on one side gave way. It seems to have been common practice to test new bridges in this way, though other methods may prudently have been adopted after this incident.
