Leighton Hall, near Welshpool, c. 1905

Description

Leighton Hall, near Welshpool, shown on a coloured postcard view published around 1905. The house, dominated by a remarkable castellated tower, was built in 1851 for John Naylor, a wealthy Liverpool banker. Naylor was a pioneer of new ideas in agriculture, and his model estate included private gas and waterworks to provide lighting and to power machinery.
