Old Town Hall, Welshpool, c. 1870

Description

A rare surviving image of the old Town Hall in Broad Street, Welshpool. This building was completed in 1804, enlarged in 1836, and demolished by 1873, when it was replaced by the present Town Hall with its prominent clock tower. Both the first and second major civic buildings in the town experienced partial collapse during important occasions, but the new one is hopefully more substantial.
