Lady Nithsdale's Cottage, Welshpool

Description

Lady Nithsdale's Cottage in Welshpool is more often known as Grace Evans' Cottage. Grace Evans was a maid to Lady Nithsdale, whose father was the first Marquess of Powis, and she helped in the rescue of Lord Nithsdale from the Tower of London in 1716. Following the dramatic rescue the Nithsdales fled to France and took Grace with them. The cottage is said to have been given to her by Lord Nithsdale on her return to Welshpool.
