Description

The Children's Convalescent Home opened in 1874, formerly the Baths Hotel. In 1882 Princess Alexandra, the Princess of Wales, gave permission for the home to be called The Royal Alexandra Children's Hospital and Convalescent Home. The buildings became inadequate and a 2 acre site betwen East Parade and Russell Road was secured and the Prince and Princess came in 1894 to lay the foundation stone for the new hospital.
