Description

At the top of Abbey Street was the pleasure boat the May Queen and her sister boat. I recall Jack Hughes (owner of the May Queen), to me a rather stern person, but I used to make myself useful to whoever was on the beach, by moving or placing the "chocks" (blocks of timber to give better braking in the sand). Mr Hughes passed away with Stan Edwards and Pat Longfield taking over and consequently I got to know them better.
