The telephone, Tredegar House, Newport, c. 1900
Description
Installed in its own little kiosk, just outside the butler's pantry, this is allegedly the first telephone in Newport. The Morgan family was enormously wealthy and was able to afford new technology as it became available. The butler would have been expected to answer it.
