Description

They are now within eight miles of Vicksburg and according to John, have been on board the Ohio Belle for at least six weeks. He says that this is a long time, especially as they are in and out of the swamp.

He mentions soldiers from home he has seen recently. He hopes to return home soon so that he can enjoy privileges with them once more.
