1940s Ocean Western Colliery
Description
The Ocean Western Colliery, founded by David Davies was originally called Edwards Pit after his only child. During the sinking of the mine in 1872, an explosion killed five men. The first coal was raised in 1876, and the mine eventually closed in 1984.
