Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, from Barnes Landing, Louisiana, to his family in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 31 October 1863 [page 1 of 4]
Description
John mentions a fierce battle that took place on the nineteenth of the month on the Afolusias prairie in Louisiana. A number of prisoners were taken hostage and some of the rebels were killed or injured. Only two men from their side were injured. They were on the prairie and the rebels in the woods, and John says that they were showered by shells falling from the trees. John says that the rebels didn't even have time to eat their breakfast.
John says they're having enough fresh meat and he also mentions that he received a letter from John W. Jones, after he started writing this letter, saying that he's getting much better.
