Description

HMS MOTAGUA after an accident at sea with depth charges on 19 March 1918. In a collision with US destroyer MANLEY, the depth charges on board the MOTAGUA exploded, killing 28 crew members and wounding another 33. A total of 34 men of the MANLEY were killed or wounded.
This photograph is one of an album of photographs taken by Norman Lloyd-Williams while serving on HMS Mantua in 1917. The album was brought to the attention of the U-Boat Project 1914-18 by his son Walter Lloyd-Williams, Holyhead, who kindly allowed us to share it.
