Letter from Corporal John Griffith Jones, from Drouce[?] Point, Texas, to his family in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, 9 January 1864 [page 1 of 4]

Description

John mentions that their chaplain has been suffering with the smallpox for a week. They have a new General called Ranson. They're getting plenty of food including salty beef and whisky as the water is fairly bad. John says that he's been fishing and that he's caught a lot of salmon. He has heard from Owen Owen from Jackson Mishigen and he's fairly healthy.
