Buckley Jubilee Procession, c. 1890

Description

The Buckley Jubilee procession is held annually in the town on the second Tuesday in July. The Buckley Jubilee officially began in 1856 as a temperance movement meeting, but it probably evolved from an earlier community gathering. The term 'Jubilee' was officially used from 1871 onwards when it developed into an annual Sunday school festival. By the end of the nineteenth century, the Jubilee had become an important event in the local calendar and featured a huge procession through the town to the accompaniment of brass bands.
