Despite the caption, this photograph seems to show the return trip of the first passenger train from Barry to Cardiff. The location appears to be the down ( southern ) platform at Cadoxton Station having arrived from Cardiff. The locomotive is one of the Barry Railway 'G' Class 0-4-4T tanks. One assumes from the caption that this was the commencement of through services to Cardiff Riverside Station in 1893 as prior to that date the services ran to Cogan with a change to the Taff Vale Railway sevice from Penarth Dock to cardiff.
