In 1890 there existed two football teams in Bangor: 'The Lancers' and 'Bangor Athletics'. It appears that this team may have been 'Bangor Athletics'. The two teams were merged in the early 1890s in order to play competitive football and were named 'Bangor Rovers'. Bangor Football Club as it is known today was not founded until 1914.
