Description

Two x large, one inch buttons of the former Swansea Borough Police. They are most probably ones that were fitted to fasten and button up the front of an early Victorian era uniform tunic. Two piece metal buttons, complete with rear fixing loops.

The small Swansea Police force was formed in 1835.

Blackened brass, the makers details on the back of these buttons are shown as Hebbert & Co. London. That information definitely confirms their date of manufacture as being between 1852 and 1895.

Slightly different in their design, they are likely to be manufactured at differing periods.
