Description

Linocut print of Saunders Lewis by Paul Peter Piech.

Saunders Lewis was a playwright, poet, novelist, scholar, literary critic and politician, and one of Plaid Cymru's founders. His famous radio lecture, Tynged yr Iaith, was broadcast in 1962 and was the catalyst for establishing ‘Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg’ (The Welsh Language Society). He is best known as a playwright, but was also known as one of the three men, along with D. J. Williams and Lewis Valentine, who burned the Bombing School at Penyberth because of their pacifist beliefs.
