'4 Ingram Court, Fenchurch St, London
24th Oct 1865

Sir, Yesterday I received yours of 21st but as the South American French mail, via Bordeaux, was made up last night, I could not comply with your wishes, as it was essential I should reply immediately. Your having refused to accept the two bills there was no alternative left me than protest; but your meeting the bills when due will obviate any further expense. I have forwarded bills for Mr John Jones.

Yours faithfully,
N. M. Claypole'.
