The map accompanying the 'Borough' guide published by the town council and Edward J Burrows Co around 1905 show the large, winged-building at this location as 'baths'. There were public baths for men and boys and for women and girls. The building was converted to a cinema in the 1920s. An advert in the 'Aberystwyth Official Guide and Souvenir' published by Aberystwyth Corporation in 1924 contains an advert for the Imperial Cinema showing the 'best and latest pictures' with 'projection perfect'. The films were show continuously from 6pm to 11pm. If the weather was wet, two additional showings were made - 11.30am and 2.30pm. The cinema had a full orchestra, because the first 'talking' movie (The Jazz Singer) was not released until 1927. It became known as the Conway cinema (originally The Little Theatre). This building was demolished in in the early 1970s to be replaced by Commodore cinema.
