The map accompanying the 'Aberystwyth Official Guide and Souvenir' published by Aberystwyth Corporation in 1924, shows two lavatories - one on the castle grounds (this building) and another in Brynmor Terrace at the northern end of the promenade. The building dates to around 1902 and the entrances for men and women have ornate cast-iron screens.
